Case Study “The Art of the Heist”
Working with New York based film company Chelsea Pictures and Florida based film company Haxan Films (the creators of Blair Witch Project) Abacus Video Productions played a key role in McKinney-Silver’s ground breaking three-month campaign, dubbed The Art of the Heist. The comprehensive campaign included virtually every known available medium, including print ads, billboards, TV commercials, radio spots, websites, live events, emails, videos, wild postings, blogs, IRC chats, direct mail, voice transcripts, puzzles, photos and live web casts, provided by Abacus Video Productions. In brief, the story used a technique known as alternative reality gaming, an interactive fictional story sponsored by Audi was told across multiple platforms in which a community of users becomes a part of the story, interacting with the characters, helping each other solve the mystery
